His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche is the eighteenth in a lineage of eminent Indian and Tibetan pandits and masters, and the fourth Trijang Rinpoche. He was born on 15 October 1982 and was recognised as the reincarnation of Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang; after a search begun in 1984, the recognition was confirmed on 23 April 1985.

Kyabje Rinpoche completed the full course of Buddhist study - the five great texts of Sutra, and the whole of Tantra - under his root guru H.H. Kyabje Lati Rinpoche and Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche, Kyabje Yongyal Rinpoche and many other respected teachers.

He is the principal throne holder of Shar Gaden Monastic University in Karnataka, South India, and spiritual director of the Trijang Buddhist Institute in Northfield, Vermont.

He is the spiritual head of the monasteries, centres, institutes and followers of Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang throughout the world, giving direction to established Gelugpa monasteries and to the centres founded by his predecessor's disciples.

He has travelled to many countries to teach the Dharma and to help countless sentient beings, and he continues to guide programmes for the public, for ordained monks and nuns, and for lay practitioners, so that the teachings of the Buddha, and the tradition of Je Tsongkhapa which Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang carried into the wider world, are preserved and passed on.
